Labyrinth is out in the world today! This record is rooted in curiosity, imagination, perception, perseverance, appreciation, density, space, and the beauty and wonder that lies between the cracks. I learned so much through the process of writing this record, and I’m really grateful to those of you that are here to listen to it today. Thank you!

I recorded this record both at home, and with @djamesgoodwin at his studio @theisokon, which at the time was located in a mostly vacant IBM building in Kingston, NY. We had so much fun collaborating on this record, and I’m so grateful to Dan for his support and helping me complete this collection of songs. Dan played a ton on Labyrinth, and also mixed/mastered the record.

One week of Admiration. Thank you to everyone who has listened and shared this song. Here’s a video from the time and place the song was written. Socked in on all sides by wildfire smoke by the ocean in 2020 is probably the most claustrophobic I’ve ever felt. But as with most hard things, this time held some beauty too. 🖤

Admiration holds a very special place in my heart, and we’ve been looking forward to sharing this one with you all. It was a solid arrangement early on, but when @djamesgoodwin added his magic, and particularly his guitar part in the chorus, it hit in that way that’s almost indescribable. Deep in the chest, heart, soul - that place that’s always there but often times unreachable.

The song was written during a trip to my former home on the coast of Oregon during the wildfires in 2020. I was alone, and socked in by heavy smoke from all sides. Scared and missing my partner, I didn’t know whether I should evacuate, or which road I’d have the best chance to get out on. Amidst my fear and feelings of helplessness amplifying the current state of the world, I was also remembering what I have to be grateful for - trying to use fear and uncertainty as a vehicle for hope.

The album cover was designed by the extremely talented and generous Ben Stubbington @sidanddo Inspired by a Bridget Riley publication, Ben hand drew the text initially, and later digitized it so that it could house the photo by the incredible @sophkuller.

Back home and reflecting on this truly beautiful tour with @bethorton @bendylansloan @_magic.al @notnorastanley @stephenpatota @whothefuckiskennystahl @dontluc . It was so fulfilling and uplifting to be playing music for people every night, visit some old haunts and some of my favorite cities in North America. I can’t express the gratitude I feel for having the opportunity to hustle through the last few weeks with such a beautiful group of goofballs. The positivity and genuine care expressed within the group for each other and for the music we were making each night was overwhelming in the best way possible. Thank you Beth for having me along - you’re as true as they come. Thank you to everyone who came out to the shows 🙏 I loved playing new music for you all, meeting sweet people and seeing some dear friends. Hope to be back out there in the new year! 💝

Blood Run Through Me is out!

I’m so excited to share the first single and accompanying video from my forthcoming record today.

Blood Run Through Me is a song about connection and the ways in which we move through our experiences, in relation to one another. Everyone has their own perspective or view through which they experience life, and although we move through life somewhat collectively, we each have our own story to tell. We can learn so much about each other through observation if we can remove judgements or assumptions.

Thank you so much to the beautiful people who are featured in this video, and who were open to letting us get up close to highlight the magic in their movements large and small.

DOMES is out in the world today! Comprised of 7

DOMES is out in the world today!

Comprised of 7 cyclical cello drone pieces that emerged from a quiet place of reflection and improvisation, Domes represents my first fully instrumental collection of work. These atmospheric meanderings began as a way to connect with the cello again - not just to understand what we can do with the instrument, but what the sound it emits can do to us.

The pieces feel, to me, like grounding sounds, strong, able to bear weight. They build and fall away, like the peaks and valleys of emotions, the gradual accretion and erosion of a landform, or the construction and deconstruction of an edifice.

The 7 pieces on Domes represent shape, support, and mass. They form a series of layered, repeated melodies which, in practice, made me feel calm, relieved, and curious. I hope it has the same effect for the listener.

DOMES is available today via @dauwlabel for limited edition vinyl preorder, cassette, and pay what you wish for digital/streaming on @bandcamp exclusively for 14 days. Streaming on all other platforms will be available after the 2 week period.

It feels like it’s been 200 years since I played

It feels like it’s been 200 years since I played a show. Despite the jarring shift to lockdown, after spending the majority of my life on the road, taking a break from touring has been good in many ways - and something I may not have chosen if left to my own devices. It has helped me prioritize things that are most important, let go of things that needed letting go, and given me the chance to dive into creativity and songwriting in a deeper way. I thought I’d be sharing a lot of new music this year, but the delays at pressing plants have pushed things out. So, next year it is. I hope it feels like riding a bike when I finally do get back on a stage, but I can’t wait to play new songs loud, outside of the house when the time comes!
